Screw connection in accordance with VDI 2230
Preload, tightening torque and utilisation of a bolted joint in accordance with the VDI 2230 method.
in accordance with VDI 2230, Part 1Rough estimate without partial safety factors. For the verified report: Hebelwerk.
VDI 2230 is the standard for high-load bolted joints in mechanical engineering. The table here provides the assembly preload and tightening torque for common coefficients of friction. The full verification, including force ratio, settlement loss and fatigue strength, can be found at Hebelwerk.
What the computer calculates
The permissible assembly preload force, calculated from the stress cross-section and yield strength at 90 per cent utilisation; the tightening torque is determined using the approximation M = K · F · d, where K is derived from the coefficient of friction.
What he doesn’t realise
Proportions of operating forces, deflections, settlement values, fatigue strength, surface pressure beneath the head.
What Hebelwerk adds to this.
Complete derivation including force ratios, settlement loss, fatigue strength and surface pressure, and forces derived from kinematics. Report with calculation steps, version and release stamp.
