Cylinder design
The compressive and tensile forces of a hydraulic cylinder based on the piston diameter, rod diameter and operating pressure, as well as the oil requirement and stroke time.
Basic hydraulic equations, excluding efficiencyRough estimate without partial safety factors. For the verified report: Hebelwerk.
The force exerted by a cylinder is pressure multiplied by area. During extension, the pressure acts on the full piston area; during retraction, it acts only on the ring area, as the rod reduces the effective area. The calculator outputs both forces and the oil requirement per stroke, so that you can estimate the stroke time using the tractor’s hydraulic system.
What the computer calculates
F_out = p · π · D² / 4, F_in = p · π · (D² − d²) / 4, oil volume V = A · stroke, stroke time t = V / Q.
What he doesn’t realise
The lever arm in the mechanism – in other words, the force that acts on the tool when the cylinder applies force at an angle. This is the standard scenario for booms and lifting operations, and the reason why Hebelwerk calculates the cylinder force across the entire angular range.
What Hebelwerk adds to this.
Cylinder force across the entire swivel range, time simulation based on oil volume and rotational speed, buckling analysis of the piston rod. Report with calculation steps, version and release stamp.
